Digital prints and videos on exhibition at the Ljubljana Fine Artists Society Gallery build bridges between human living spaces and the landscapes on micro and nano scales. These images are created as composites of measurements, computer algorithms and physical changes in materials. We are watching the surfaces of various substances on scales much smaller than the wavelength of light—this makes them invisible, unless we aid our gaze with a beam of electrons that interfere with things that are even smaller. These shapes are unfamiliar and it is difficult to relate to them, therefore we must first see them. The digital prints and videos have been created with the scanning electron microscope at the Materials Research Laboratory. SEM operator and sample preparation: Doc Dr Mattia Fanetti. Samples from the research projects by Doc Dr Saim Emin, nanowire samples by Dr Silvia Rubini and Dr Valentina Zannier (IOM-CNR, Laboratorio TASC). The authors would like to thank Prof Dr Matjaž Valant and Rector Prof Dr Danilo Zavrtanik.
Production: Universityof Nova Gorica (project Strengthening University of Nova Gorica Research Potential in Environmental Sciences and Novel Nanomaterials – SUNGREEN), ArtNetLab Society for Connecting Art and Science, Faculty for Computer and Information Science of the University of Ljubljana, and Ljubljana Fine Artists Society.
